Joshua Part 1: Chapters 1-12

Sermons

In the book of Joshua, we encounter the God who keeps his word. He’s the God who is ready and willing to go into battle for his people, and isn’t about to let them down.

The Israelites in the book of Joshua are facing a seemingly impossible task. They were to take possession of the land promised to them by God, even though it was filled with huge cities and, compared to the people living there, the Israelites seemed small and powerless (Numbers 13). And yet God said to their leader, Joshua: “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them … Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1: 6 & 9)

As we follow Joshua and the Israelites on their journey, we’ll see the power of our God who is the same today and in the future as he was back then (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8). He defeated Satan, sin and death in Jesus’ death and rising to life, and he is still just as powerful today. We’ll be assured that he has kept, and will continue to keep all the promises he has made to us.

Part one of the book of Joshua, covering chapters 1 – 12 will begin on February 9th, 2014 at our 9:45am Sunday service and continue for 10 weeks.
